2. General View taken from the North Peak (Te Heu Heu Peak), looking South. In the distance the sharp rocky peak (Little Matterhorn) shows up. Ruapehu Peak, the highest, shows in the centre of the picture to the top. The central crater-lake is hidden through the ice-cliffs which surround it. On the left can be seen the top of the much-crevassed Wangaehu Glacier.
