No. 28, Session I. —Petition of R. H. Hanson. (No. 2.) PETITIONED prays for compensation for injuries received while in the Railway service. The previous report having been referred back by the House for reconsideration, I am directed to report that the Committee recommends that this petition be referred to the Government for consideration. 7th December, 1909. No. 7.—Petition of William Moebis, of Greymouth, Sawmiller. Petitioner prays for relief in connection with a sawmilling siding at Baxter's. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make on this petition. 14th December, 1909. No. 13.—Petition of E. W. Henderson and Others;'also 74 similar Petitions as per Schedule attached, containing 722 Signatures of Engine-drivers, Firemen, and Cleaners. Petitioners pray that official recognition be granted to them as a .separate organization froni those of other branches of the Railway service. I am directed to report, — Clause 1. That in the opinion of this Committee the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants has represented the engine-drivers, firemen, and cleaners equally as welj as the other sections of the Railway service. Clause 2. That due prominence has always been given to the requirements of the enginedrivers, firemen, and cleaners when the Railway Department has been approached by the delegates of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants. Clause 3. That by internal reorganization of the society the petitioners could always get direct representation on the executive of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants. Clause 4. That, as the Railway Department is a State Department, it is desirable that one representative body should place the requirements of the men before the Department, the Minister, and Parliament. Clause 5. That, having gone exhaustively into the evidence, and given the fullest consideration to the prayer of the petitioners, the Committee has no recommendation to make. 14th December, 1909.
