And we would like to place on record our high sense of the great loss the colony and humanity at large have sustained in the termination of so unselfish a life—a life spent in the cause of the people — and the beneficial effects of whose policy will mould future history. It is a national loss, and New Zealand will be a long time before it produces a soul so noble and so able as the great man who has passed away.
