I am directed to report that the Committee recommends that this petition should be referred to the Government for inquiry and, if it is found necessary, legislation should be granted to afford the petitioners an opportunity of bringing forward their claims. sth September, 1905.

Maoei Land Councils Bill. I am directed to report that the Native Affairs Committee, to whom was referred the abovementioned Bill, has duly considered the same, and is of opinion that it should be allowed to proceed, subject to the amendments shown on a copy of the Bill attached hereto. 13th September, 1905.
