Rakaia, Thursday, 13th April, 1905. The Commission met at Rakaia at 7 p.m. Present: All the Commissioners. The following witnesses were heard: Messrs. Gee, Shannon, and Burns. The Commission adjourned at 8.30, and proceeded to Christchurch by the second express.
Christchurch, Friday, 14th April, 1905. The Commission, after driving round the settlements in the neighbourhood, met in Christchurch at 11 a.m. A list was adopted of persons occupying official positions and of experts to be asked to give evidence, in committee. The Commission adjourned at 10 p.m. Christchurch, Saturday, 15th April, 1905. The Commission met at 9 a.m. Present: All the Commissioners. After 10 a.m. the following witnesses were heard in public: Messrs. McCulloch, Harrison, Ayers, Overton, Larsen, and Maiming. The Commission adjourned at 4.30 p.m. Cheviot (Mackenzie), Monday, 17th April, 1905. The Commission, after the journey up from Christchurch, met at 4.30 p.m. Present: Messrs. Forbes (in the chair), Matheson, Paul, Anstey, McLennan, McCardle, and Johnston. The following witnesses were heard: Messrs. Vaughan, Gee, Archibald, Oliver, Fleming, Pulley, Wilson, Bait, Cell, Barker, Hodson, Stevenson, R. Fleming, Honghey, Hanson, Henshaw, and Hogan. The Commission adjourned at 10.30 p.m. Waiau, Wednesday, 19th April, 1905. The Commission spent the 18th in travelling from Cheviot, by Scargill and Waipara, to Culverden. On the 19th it drove to Waiau, and met there, after visiting the Lyndon and Highfield Settlements, at 2 p.m Present: Messrs. Forbes (in the chair), Matheson, Paul, Anstey, and McLennan. The following witnesses were heard: Messrs. Parley, Boyd, Bunting, Fitzpatrick, Gardiner, W. Rutherford, Douds, Beavan, Richards, Webb, and W. T. Rutherford. The Commission adjourned at 4.25, and drove back to Culverden Hawarden, Thursday, 20th April, 1905. The Commission left Culverden at 7.45, drove round the Medbury and Horsley Down Settlements, and met at Hawarden at 10.30 a.m. Present: Messrs. Forbes (in the chair), Matheson, Paul, Anstey, and McLennan. The following witnesses were heard: Messrs. Gardner, White, Anderson, Brooker, and Hewett. The Commission adjourned at 12.15, drove to Waikari, and reached Christchurch by the afternoon train. CHRISTCIIUTtOH, TUESDAY, 25T1-I APRIL, 1905. The Commission met at 9.30 a.m. Present: Messrs. McKerrow, Paul, McLennan, Anstey, Matheson, and Johnston. The following witnesses were heard: Messrs. Hepworth, Freeman, Glen, Hall, Williams. Rennie, Dunlop, Aplin, Ozanne, Bunne, Maffey, Pitman, Newlgnn, Jameson, McGloin, and Daniel. The Commission adjourned at 5 p.m. Christchurch, Wednesday, 26th April, 1905. The Commission met at 10 arm. Present: Messrs. McKerrow, Forbes, Matheson, Paul. Anstey, and Johnston. The following witnesses were heard: Messrs. Paterson, Williams, Yates, Lawry, Staverley. Lewis Baynon, Atkinson, A. M. Miller, W. Miller, Neil, J. Miller, Agar, Allen, Lewis. At 6 p.m. adjourned until 7.30, after which Messrs. Joyce and Wood gave evidence.
