No. 553, 1903.—Petition of Himi Tupara and 13 Others. Petitioners pray for gratuities for past military services. I am directed to report that the Committee recommends that this petition should be referred to the Government for inquiry. 7th October, 1900.

No. 476, 1903.—Petition of Retreat Tapsell and 28 Others. Petitioners pray that a sum of money may be granted for putting the road between Maketu and Waihi into repair. I am directed to report that the Committee recommends that this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 7th October, 1903. ——

No. 193, 1903.—Petition of Te Rangimairehau and 22 Others. Petitioners pray for rehearing in connection with the Kawiu portion of Horowhenua Block, and that the said investigation may be made by the Aotea Maori Land Council. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make with regard to this petition. 3rd November, 1903.

E inoi ana nga kai-pitihana kia whakawakia tuaruatia a Te Kawiu, he wahi tenei no Horowhenua Poraka, a ko taua whakawa me hoatu ma te Kaunihera Whenua Maori o Aotea c whakahaere. Kua whakahaua ahau kia ki penei, kaore kau he kupu a te Komiti mo runga i tenei pitihana. 3 o Noema, 1903.

Nos. 774 and 775, 1903.—Petitions of Tuaiwa Ngatipare and Honana Maioha. Petitioners pray for rehearing in connection with Te Akau Blocks. I am directed to report that, as the Committee has already considered and reported on similar petitions this session, it has no recommendation to make. Note. —This report was referred back by the House for reconsideration (see report of 18th November). 3rd November, 1903.

Kua whakahaua ahau kia ki penei, i te mea kua oti i te Komiti te whiriwhiri me te ripoata o etahi pitihana penei ano me tenei te ahua i tenei tuunga o te Paremete, no reira kaore ana kupu. I whakahokia tenei ripoata kite Komiti mo nga Mea Maori kia whiriwhiria ano (tirohia te ripoata o te 18 o Noema). 3 o Noema, 1903.

Maori Land Laws Amendment Bill. I am directed to report that the Native Affairs Committee, to whom was referred the abovementioned Bill, has duly considered the same, and is of opinion that it should be allowed to proceed, subject to the amendments as shown on a copy of the Bill attached hereto, and that the evidence taken be printed. (See 1.-3 a.) The Committee, having taken evidence on the subject, recommends that no legislative action be taken by the Government this session with regard to agreements between Europeans and Maoris relating to timber. 10th November, 1903.
