The writer says, "It appears that the boundary dividing the two electorates has not been taken along the existing roads, but just where Gohl's Hotel stands, the boundary having been fixed along an old road, which has practically never existed, and which really forms a part of Gohl's farm, the result being that a triangular piece embracing an acre or two upon which the hotel is situated has been cut off from the Awarua Electorate and included in the Mataura Electorate, and that there is really no visible natural mark to distinguish the division between the two electorates at that particular point."
