1901. NEW ZEALAND.

PACIFIC ISLANDS: IMPERIAL ORDER IN COUNCIL EXTENDING THE BOUNDARIES OF THE COLONY OF NEW ZEALAND SO AS TO INCLUDE THE COOK AND OTHER ISLANDS, WITH PROCLAMATION BY HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR.

Laid on the Table of both Houses of the General Assembly by Command of His Excellency.

Order in Council extending Boundaries of Colony of New Zealand. At the Court at Saint James's, the thirteenth Day of May, 1901. Present: The King's Most Excellent Majesty in Council. Whereas by " The Colonial Boundaries Act, 1895," it is provided that where the boundaries of a colony have, either before or after the passing of that Act, been altered by Order in Council or Letters Patent, the boundaries as so altered shall be and be deemed to have been from the date of the alteration the boundaries of the colony : provided that the consent of a self-governing colony shall be required for the alteration of the boundaries thereof: And whereas it is expedient that the boundaries of the self-governing Colony of New Zealand should be altered in such manner that the islands of the Cook Group, and such other islands in the Pacific within the limits hereinafter described as may now or hereafter form part of His Majesty's dominions, shall become part of the said Colony of New Zealand : And whereas the said Colony of New Zealand has, by resolutions of both Houses of its Legislature, consented to the alteration of the boundaries of the colony as hereinafter described : Now, therefore, His Majesty, by virtue and in exercise of the powers by " The Colonial Boundaries Act, 1895," or otherwise in His Majesty vested, is pleased, by and with the advice of his Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows: From and after a date to be appointed by the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand by Proclamation under his hand and the public seal of the colony, the boundaries of the Colony of New Zealand, as defined in an Act of the twenty-sixth year of the reign of Her late Majesty Queen Victoria, intituled " An Act to alter the Boundaries of New Zealand," shall be extended so as to include all the islands and territories which now or may hereafter form part of His Majesty's dominions situate within the following boundary-line, viz.: — A line commencing at a point at the intersection of the twenty-third degree of south latitude and the one-hundred-and-fifty-sixth degree of longitude west of Greenwich, and proceeding due north to the point of intersection of the eighth degree of south latitude and the one-hundred-and-fifty-sixth degree of longitude west of Greenwich ; thence due west to the point of intersection of the eighth degree of south latitude and the one-hundred-and-sixty-seventh degree of longitude west of Greenwich; thence due south to the point of intersection of the seventeenth degree of south latitude and the one-hundred-and-sixty-seventh degree of longitude west of Greenwich ; thence due west to the point of intersection of the seventeenth degree of south latitude and the one-hundred-and-seventieth degree of longitude west of Greenwich ; thence due south to the point of intersection of the twenty-third degree of south latitude and the one-hundred-and-seventieth degree of longitude west of Greenwich; and thence due east to the starting-point at the intersection of the twenty-third degree of south latitude and the one-hundred-and-fifty-sixth degree of longitude west of Greenwich.
