The present out-patient department is inadequate. The kitchen department does credit to Miss Ewart. It is economical and thoroughly efficient, with a woman cook and two assistants. The scrupulous cleanliness and tidiness of the Christchurch Hospital Mtchen at an unexpected visit shortly after 2 p.m. was worth noting in contrast to other hospital kitchens where men are in charge at high salaries. Dr. Crookes and his assistant manage the institution very satisfactorily. The patients are well cared for in every respect.
