With reference to your Lordship's despatch No. 39, of the sth July, on the subject of the assimilation of the New Zealand law relating to shipping inquiries to that contained in " The Imperial Merchant Shipping Act, 1894," I have the honour to transmit to you, for the consideration of your Government, a copy of a memorandum prepared by the Board of Trade, in which it is suggested that " The Shipping and Seamen's Act, 1877," should be amended in the direction indicated in the memorandum, without waiting until an opportunity offers for the consolidation of the New Zealand Shipping Acts.
