The cost of the burnt material at the mouth of the pit will not exceed 2s. 6d. per cubic yard. Everything taken into consideration, the experiment may be looked upon as a success, and should be the means of saving great expense in the future, metal being so scarce upon the line of road that the benefit to those using the road will be incalculable. Should the metal which has just been laid also prove satisfactory, I would recommend that kiln 3 be erected at intervals along the line of road, where gravel cannot be procured, for the purpose of manufacturing the material.
