London to Sydney.

No. 62. The Secretary, General Post Office, Wellington, to the Deputy Postmaster-General, Sydney. Sir,— General Post Office, Wellington, 9th July, 1897. I have the honour to acknowledge, with thanks, the receipt of your letter of the 10th ultimo, notifying the employment of the " Aorangi" in the Sydney-Vancouver mail-service, and the inclusion of Wellington as a port of call pending a decision on the question of a subsidy from this colony. I note that the service will be four-weekly in the place of monthly, and will alternate with that vid San Francisco, so as to give as far as practicable a fortnightly Pacific service. I have also received the printed copies of the time-table which you were good enough to send with your letter of the 15th ultimo. I have, &c, Thomas Rose, The Deputy Postmaster-General, Sydney. No. 63. The Hon. W. C. Walker to the Agent-General. Sir,— Premier's Office, Wellington, 15th July, 1897. I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your memorandum of the 24th May last, forwarding copy of letter and enclosures addressed to you by Messrs. James Huddart and Co., London, on the subject of the inclusion of this colony in the route of the mail-service between Sydney and Vancouver, and the proposal that the sailing dates from San Francisco be altered so as to give a fortnightly Pacific service both ways.
