No. 507, 1895, and No. 403, 1896.—Petitions of Hama Hamueea and 245 Others, and Hanikamu te Hiko and Another. Petitionees pray that the question of the " tenths " may be gone into, in order that they may receive the profits accruing therefrom. I am directed to report that the Committee recommend that these petitions be referred to Government for consideration, in conjunction with the Native Reserves Act Amendment Bill now before the House. 24th September, 1896. ■

No. 327.—Petition of Hieini Nui and 11 Others. Petitionees complain that the partitioning of Maraetaha No. 2 Block is incorrect; they pray that the Native Land Court may be empowered to rehear the same. I am directed to report that the Committee are of opinion that the petitioners have a just cause for complaint, and it is recommended that the Government should take steps to have the matter inquired into and readjusted. 25th September, 1896.

I am directed to report that the Native Affairs Committee, to whom was referred the above-men-tioned Bill, have duly considered the same, and are of opinion that it should be allowed to proceed, subject to the amendments as shown on a copy attached hereto. 30th September, 1896. ■

Petitionee alleges that, through a legal technicality, he is unable to complete certain transactions in connection with leasing portion of the Ngawakaakupe Block No. 3, Wairarapa. He prays that legislation may be passed to enable him to bring the matter before the law-courts. I am directed to report that the Committee have no recommendation to make with regard to this petition. 30th September, 1896.
