Nos, 55, 71, 110, and 365.—Petitions of Eeihana Moheketanga and 47 Others, Wieemu te Teeti and 43 Others, Eewiei Hongi and 11 Others, and Honi Peti and 4 Others. Petitionebs pray that certain blocks of land situated in the northern part of the Provincial District of Auckland, commonly known as " surplus lands," may be returned to them, or compensation paid therefor. I am directed to report that the Committee recommends the Government, as these grievances have been of very long standing, and as it will be the means of settling these matters and putting the minds of the Natives at rest for once and for all, a Eoyal Commission should be appointed to inquire into the allegation set forth in the above petition. 2nd October, 1894.

No. 408.—Petition of Winiata Kaihote. Petitioneb prays for a rehearing of Ohuia No. 2 Block, as he alleges his name, with others, was wrongfully struck out of the list of owners. I am directed to report that the Committee is satisfied that the name of the petitioner, with some others, was wrongly erased from the list of owners in the Ohuia No. 2 Block, as it was done some time after the judgment had been given, and the list of owners confirmed, and no notice was given of such erasure to the parties concerned. Under the circumstances, this Committee recommends this petition be referred to the Government with the view of passing remedial legislation. sth October, 1894.
