At the time of my visit, Miss Blackley, the matron, who has since got married, was absent on leave, and has been succeeded by Miss Fernandez, a very satisfactory appointment. Dr. O'Carroll's orderly is getting too old for his work. The fire-hose was in a bad condition, and ought to be replaced. I think the system of drainage faulty and dangerous to the whole neighbourhood bordering the gullies into which it is discharged ; but how to remedy it until the town as a whole is drained I do not see.
