Nos. 288 and 289—Petition of Taituha Hape and 30 Others, and Taituha Hape. Petitioners pray that the proposed Federated Maori Assembly Empowering Bill may not be allowed to pass into law. I have the honour to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make with regard to these petitions. 15th August, 1893. No. 706, 1891, Sess. ll.—Petition of Ngahina Taua and Others. Petitioners allege that a woman named Kuini Thompson has got possession of a portion of their land in the Wharoroa Block, Taranaki, in a fraudulent manner. They pray that the order of the Court granting her the land may be set aside and a rehearing held. I have the honour to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make in connection with this petition. 15th August, 1893. No. 188. —Petition of Hapakuku Moetara. Petitioner prays that a rehearing may be held in connection with the Panaki Block. I have the honour to report that the Committee is of opinion that this petition should be referred to the Government for their consideration. 16th August, 1893. No. 119. —Petition of Eihitoto Mataia and 3 Others. Petitionees pray that legislation may be enacted to enable them to obtain a rehearing in the matter of Ohinemuri No. 20 Block, they having been deprived of the same through alleged wrongful judgments of the Native Land Court Judges. I have the honour to report that the Committee, having gone carefully into the matter, find that the judgments delivered by different Judges of the Native Land Court in connection with the lands in qustion are somewhat conflicting, they therefore recommend that the petition be referred to the Government for inquiry ; and, in doing so, call attention to the judgments delivered by Judge Gudgeon in connection with an adjoining block, wherein the claimants' cases were exactly similar to the Ohinemuri No. 20 case. 16th August, 1893. ■ [Translation.] No. 119. —Pukapuka inoi a Eihitoto Mataia me etahi atu tokotoru. No. 440, 1892.—Hubu te Hiako and 2 Others. Petitioners allege that through an error in survey, a piece of laud containing 5,180 acres situated between the Kaihimi and Mangatainoka Blocks has been wrongfully taken from them ; they pray for compensation. I have the honour to report that the Committee is of opinion that this petition should be referred to the Government for inquiry. 18th August, 1893.
