1893. NEW ZEALAND.

MIDLAND RAILWAY COMPANY. (COPY OF A LETTER FROM MR. WILSON, ENGINEER-IN-CHIEF AND GENERAL MANAGER.)

Laid on the Table by the Hon. B. J. Seddon, by leave of the House.

Copy of a Letter from Mr. Wilson, Engineer-in-Chief and General Manager, Midland Eailway Company, to the Hon. the Premier. Wellington Club, Wellington, New Zealand, Sir,— 19th September, 1893. I have the honour to inform you that I cabled to my Board in London the report of the Public Accounts Committee on the New Zealand Midland Eailway Company's proposals, and have received a reply from my directors to the effect that, although much disappointed that the Committee did not accept their offer without alteration, the Board are prepared to accept the terms stated in the report, as a compromise for a settlement, rather than by refusing to allow the question to drift into a serious complication which would result in legal action. My Board trust that this important question will receive full consideration and settlement this session; and I must ask you to kindly place the reply of my directors before the Ministry in Cabinet. I have, &c, Eobert Wilson, The Hon. the Premier, Wellington. Engineer-in-Chief and General Manager. Approximate Cost of Paper.— Preparation, not given; printing (1,400 copies), 15s.

Price 3d.] By Authority : Samuel Costali, Government Printer, Wellington.—lB93.
