This Hospital continues to be managed with vigour. Owing to a falling-off in the number of patients treated luring the year the daily cost psr hsad has risen from 6s. B|d. in 1889 to 10s. lOd. in 1890. Notwithstanding the reduced number of patients, causing a diminution of 554 in the total collective hospital days' stay, I find there is an increase of £75 in the total cost for the year.

I found Dr. Johnston in charge for Dr. Pollen, who had removed to Wellington. There were in air eight patients, six males and two females. All spoke highly of their treatment by the doctor. I formed the opinion that Miss Stewart was an attentive and capable matron. The institution as a whole was in a satisfactory condition. The total cost has increased by £273 ; but £121 has been spent on repairs, as against £44 in the previous year; and the number of patients has increased by thirty-two.
