NATIVE LANDS IN THE COLONY (PARTICULARS RESPECTING THE).

Return to an Order of the House of Representatives dated 23rd September, 1891. Ordered, " That there be laid on the table of the House a return showing— " I. The tribal lands still held by the Maoris which have not passed through the Native Land Court and have not been leased to Europeans, separating those which are actually occupied for pastoral or agricultural purposes by the Maoris and those which are lying practically unproductive. " 11. The tribal lands still held by the Maoris which have not passed through the Native Land Court, but which have been leased to Europeans, detailing names of lessees, original term and date of expiry of lease, annual rental, and property-tax valuations of lessors' and lessees' interests, and amount of property-tax paid annually in respect thereof. "111. Lands, tribal and otherwise, under negotiation for purchase by the Government, specifying separately areas of blocks, purchase-money required, amount and date of payment of deposits or part purchase-money, and reasons for non-completion of purchase. " IV. Lands which have passed through the Native Land Court and have been leased to Europeans, specifying original terms and date of expiry of lease, annual rental, and property-tax valuations of lessors' and lessees' interests, and amount of property-tax paid annually in respect thereof. " V. Lands which have passed through the Native Land Court and are still held by the Maoris for personal occupation, detailing property-tax valuation, and amount of property-tax paid annually in respect thereof. " VI. The total amount now remaining due to the Government for costs of survey and other matters in connection with Maori lands, detailing for what purpose such costs wore incurred, and when the Government in likely to have such costs repaid. " VII. The total amount of property-tax paid annually by Europeans and Maoris in respect of Native lands, specifying the amount paid by each race." —(Mr. Macdonald.)

I.—Return showing the Tribal Lands still held by Maoris which have not passed through the Native Land Court, and have not been leased to Europeans, separating those which are actually occupied for Pastoral or Agricultural Purposes by the Maoris and those which are lying practically Unproductive.
