The Waste Lands Committee- have the honour to report that they are of opinion that this petition should be referred to the Government with a recommendation that the sum of £8 be paid to petitioner in discharge of all claims. 10th September, 1889.
No. 462. —Petition of F. yon Redkn and Others. The petitioners pray that a road may be constructed to connect Eketahuna with the West Coast via Shannon, with a view to open up settlement west of Bketahuna, and that a sum of money be placed upon the estimates for that purpose. The Waste Lands Committee have the honour to report as follows: The Committee recommend that this petition be referred to Government for favourable consideration. 11th September, 1889. •
No. 498.—Petition of Mary Williams (Second Report). The petitioner states that she is the widow of the late John Williams, who resided at Pern Flat, Inangahua; that in the year 1887 over three acres of grass and tillage land were surveyed by Government and cut off her husband's property at Fern Flat for road-making purposes ; that neither her husband nor petitioner have received any compensation for the land so taken. She prays for compensation and redress. The Waste Lands Committee have the honour to report that they have reconsidered this petition. The Committee recommend that the Government be requested to wraive any technical objections to this claim, which, in the opinion of the Committee, should be referred to a local Compensation Court for adjustment. 11th September, 1889.
No. 509. —Petition of -James Patterson and Others. The petitioners pray that at the expiration of the present lessee's lease of Station Peak Run, in the year 1890, the latter may be cut up into small runs and offered for sale. The Waste Lands Committee have the honour to report as follows: The Committee are of opinion that the Government, before giving effect to the report of the Classification Commissioners in the case of the Station Peak Run, should make full inquiries into the statements made in the petition, with a view of having the runs dealt within the interest of settlement. 11th September, 1889.
