Petitionees pray that the Treaty of Waitangi, 1840, and " The New Zealand Constitution Act, 1852 " which provides that the Maoris shall have local self-government and absolute disposition of their lands, may be upheld. I am directed to report as follows : That the Committee recommend that this petition be referred to the Government for consideration.

I am directed to report as follows : That the Committee is of opinion that Wiremu Poakatahi has no claim on the Government in respect of his petition.
