EXPENDITURE ON PUBLIC WORKS ON WEST COAST, MIDDLE ISLAND (RETURN SHOWING).

Return to an Order of the House of Representatives, dated 9th November, 1887. Ordered, " That there be laid upon the table a return showing' (l) the total amount expended by the Public WorksDepartment, from the 31st March, 1886, to the 30th September, 1887, on public works of all and every description, including road maintenance, and which said works are located on the west coast of the Middle Island, and directly under the control and management of the District Engineer- of Westland; (2) what amount has been paid by the Public Works Department from the 31st March, 1886, to the 30th September, 1887, as salaries, travelling expenses, and departmental contingencies in connection with the said works, roads, &o." —(Mr. Sbddon.)
