Medical School.—The Council has been fortunate in securing for the medical school the services of Dr. Lindo Ferguson, F.8.C.5.1., &c, as lecturer on diseases of the eye. This school has now a staff of ten teachers attached to it, exclusive of the clinical staff at the hospital. School op Mines.—The Council has much pleasure in reporting that, in consequence of the renewal of the subsidy to the School of Mines, it has been able to complete its staff by the appointment of Mr. Walter Cutten as lecturer in applied mechanics, Mr. L. O. Beale, jun., C.E., as lecturer on the theory and practice of land and mining surveying,- and Mr. George J. Binns, F.G.S., as lecturer on general geology. The Council cherishes the hope that students anxious to qualify as mining inspectors and engineers will avail themselves of the instruction now placed within their reach. Boyal Chaetee.—The Council, after very full consideration, has, on the motion of the late Mr. Macandrew, M.H.E., unanimously resolved to renew its application for a Eoyal charter; and it expects to be able at an early period to place in the hands of your Excellency the petition of the Council for transmission to Her Majesty.
