With the tabulated results deduced from the data here presented are shown, under their respective heads, for the purpose of comparison, the results for the quinquennium 1873-77, published in a former report (1881): —■ 1. Ages of Members. —The registration during the quinquennium 1878-82 of new lodges, and other causes already referred to, have had the effect of counteracting the regular progress of numbers from year to year, such as is shown in several of the age-periods for the quinquennium 1873-77, where the same lodges throughout furnished the particulars of experience. The following table shows the percentage of members in quinquennial age-periods for the decade 1873-82 :—
2. Admissions. —The number of members admitted during the quinquennium 1873-77 were 3,719; during the quinquennium 1878-82, 4,285 : and the following table shows the percentage of admissions, in quinquennial age-periods, for the quinquennium 1873-77, for the quinquennium 1878-82, and for the decade 1873-82 :—
3. Secessions, i.e., Total Withdrawals less Transfers (Clearances). —In the calculation of rates of secession for the quinquennium 1873-77, as given in the report for the year 1881, the result was obtained by dividing the number of secessions, multiplied by 100, by the number of years of life under observation. Now that the data are increasing, and in view of the time when the rate of secession may be calculated for each year of life, it has been considered desirable to adopt a different method, whereby the divisor is increased by half the number of secessions, the result showing the probable rate of secessions during the year among the members at risk. The following, table gives the results for ten years :—
