circumstances. They are not forgetful of the claims that the Native population has upon the trust but in the face of the fact that it has been found impracticable in the past to combine the teaching of both races, as also that, by the liberality of a private individual, a school for Native girls, which also educates young boys, has been established in the district, they consider that their first efforts should be directed to the more feasible portion of the trust. It will also be a question, when once the institute is in fair working order, as to what provision can be made for the education of girls, other that already given by the State. WELLINGTON COLLEGE. 1. GOVEBNOBS' EEPOET. a m _ Wellington College, Secretary's Office, 15th April, 1884. The Governors of the Wellington College have the honour to report, for the information of the Hon the-Minister of Education, that the College has during the past year well maintained its position "as to numbers and efficiency During last year 202 pupils were enrolled and during the December quarter 179 were in actual attendance. Of these, thirty-four left at the end of the year but forty new boys were enrolled at the beginning of 1884, making the number now 185. _ 7 Last year twenty-one boys from the College direct passed the Civil Service examination six candidates passed the University Junior Scholarship examination, two of whom won scholarships , and six passed the matriculation examination. This year eight mataculated by passing the Juwqs
