Pre-emptive Rights purchased, 1st January, 1880, to 30th April, 1880— continue d .
No. 2. Memoeandum for the Undee-Seceetaby, Wellington. District Lands Office, Christchurch, 31st July, 1883. In compliance with the Hon. the Minister of Lands' telegram of the 13th instant I forward herewith further return showing pre-emptive rights sold during the years 1877, 1878, 1879, and to 30th April, 1880. I regret that its preparation has absorbed so much time , but it was necessary to go through the whole of the applications (some 8,000) received during the period covered, for apparently the information could not be correctly arrived at from the minute-book. It would have taken longer had I not allowed the two temporary assistants engaged in getting out excess areas to assist. If the return for previous years is required please advise. John H.
