No. 91. Copy of a DESPATCH from the Right Hon. Sir Michael Hicks Beach to Governor Sir Hercules Robinson. (Circular.) Downing Street, 27th December, 1879. The Secretary of State for the Colonies presents his compliments to the Governor of New Zealand, and has the honor to transmit to him, for information in the colony under his government, a copy of a report on cases of leprosy treated by Surgeon C. T. Peters, M.8., 2nd P.W.O. Grenadiers Regiment Native Infantry, in Belgaum, during the years 1876-78. [The enclosures above-mentioned are filed in the Colonial Secretary's Office.]
No. 92. Copy of a DESPATCH from the Right Hon. Sir Michael Hicks Beach to Governor Sir Hercules Robinson, G.C.M.G. (No. 1.) Sir, — Downing Street, 6th January, 1880. I duly caused to be forwarded for the consideration of the Royal Humane Society a copy of your Despatch No 54, of the 12th September last, respecting the conduct of Mr. Jenkins in saving many persons from drowning at the wreck of the " City of Auckland." I have now the honor to transmit to you a letter from the Society, with a bronze medal, and I request that you will cause the medal to be presented to Mr. Jenkins in as public a manner as possible. Enclosure in No. 92. The Royal Humane Society to the Colonial Office. Royal Humane Society Office, No. 4, Trafalgar Square, W.C, Sir, Ist January, 1880. I have the honor to refer to your letter of the 30th December with reference to Wm. Jenkins and his boat's crew and others concerned. The Committee have carefully considered the case and have awarded the bronze medal to Wm. Jenkins only, in consideration of his being the principal person concerned in the rescue. The bronze medal has been forwarded to the Colonial Office, and the Committee will feel obliged by the Right Honorable the Secretary of State causing it to be forwarded to the Governor of New Zealand.
