No. 78. Copy of a DESEATCH from the Eight Hon. Sir Michael Hicks Beach to the Oeeicer Administering the Government of New Zealand. (Circular.) Sir, — Downing Street, 7th October, 1879. I have the honor to transmit to you, for the information of your Government, copies of the two Acts passed in the last session of the Imperial Parliament relating' to the discipline and regulation of the army; and, at the request of the Secretary of State for War, I have to call your attention to section 5 of the Act No. 32, and to suggest for the consideration of your Government that any local Act which may have been passed in the colony for regulating the Militia or Volunteer forces, and which may contain a reference to the Imperial Mutiny Act, should be amended by substituting " The Army Discipline and Eegulation Act, 1879," for the Mutiny Act and Articles of War. No. 79. Copy of a DESEATCH from the Eight Hon. Sir Michael Hicks Beach to Governor Sir Hercules Eobinson. (No. 52.) Sir, — Downing Street, 11th October, 1879. I have the honor to inform you that Her Majesty will not be advised to exercise her power of disallowance with respect to the following Acts of the Legislature of New Zealand, transcripts of which accompanied your Despatch No. 16, of the 12th August last:— No. 1. An Act to apply a Sum of Money out of the Public Account to the Service of the Year ending the Thirtieth day of June, One thousand eight hundred and eighty. No. 2. An Act to authorize the Borrowing and Raising of Money for Immigration and Construction of Public Works, and for other Purposes. No. 8. An Act to enable the Governor in Council to fix tho Date and Place of Trial of certain Maori Prisoners. No. 1. An Act to supply a Sum of Money out of tlie Public Account to the Service of the Three Months ending the Thirtieth day of September, One thousand eight hundred and seventy-nine, and to appropriate the Supplies granted in this present Session.
