Dances were held on several evenings in the hall, and were conducted with strict propriety in European style. Mr. Commissioner Kemp paid frequent visits to the meeting, and appeared to be held in high respect by all the Natives present. Mr. Brown, of the Native Department, was the interpreter during the meetings of the first week; but, owing to his presence being required at the Bay of Islands, the work was taken up during the remainder ofthe period by Mr. De Thierry. The Government reporter desires, in conclusion, to express his thanks to the department for the courtesy uniformly received throughout the meeting. The proceedings were open to the Press, and were attended by representatives of the Ntiv Zealand Herald and Evening Star, both of whom were courteously treated by the Native Department and the Maoris, and obtained every facility for reporting the proceedings.
