No. 51. The Undee Seceetaet for Public Wobks to Mr. S. Locke. Sic,— Public Works Office, Wellington, 6th August, 1872. It being considered of great importance that no interruption should take place in the settlement in the Seventy Mile Bush—of the immigrants expected shortly to arrive—Mr. Ormond has despatched Mr. Mitchell to mark out the claims of the non-sellers. Mr. Mitchell has beeu supplied with letters from Karaitiana to the selling party to assist in pointing out the claims of tho non-sellers, aud Mr. Ormond requests that you will write letters to each of the non-sellers notifying that Mr. Mitchell is going to mark off their claims for investigation by the Native Land Court, and inviting them to assist him in doing so. In the event of your not being in town, Mr. Hamliu is directed to write these letters, and to give Mr. Mitchell all the assistance in his power in your stead. I have, &c., John Knowles, S.
