STATEMENT OF OVER-EXPENDITURE CLAIMED BY PROVINCE OF CANTERBURY FROM COUNTY OF WESTLAND.

Copy of a Letter from Mr. Bonab to the Hon. J. Hall. (No. 918.) Sib,— Hokitika, 27th August, 1868. I have the honor to forward for your information the copy of a statement furnished to me by the Provincial Secretary of Canterbury, showing the actual amount of over-expenditure as claimed by the Province of Canterbury from the County of Westland. This statement is at present under examination, and it has been already discovered that there exists an apparent error of over £15,000, there being a deficiency to that amount in the sum credited to the County.
