DESPATCH FROM HER MAJESTY'S SECRETARY OF STATE-CONDITIONS UNDER WHICH TENDER OF PENINSULAR AND ORIENTAL COMPANY HAS BEEN ACCEPTED FOR AUSTRALIAN MAIL SERVICE AFTER JANUARY, 1866. Downing Street, 26th May, 1865. Sir, — With reference to your Despatch, No. 30, of the 2nd March, I have the*honor to transmit for the information and lor the consideration of your responsible advisers, copies of two letters from the Board of Treasury, from which you will learn the conditions under which the tender made by the Peniit-ular and Oriental Steam Navigation dmpuny, for the performance, after January, 1866, of the Australian mail service, has been accepted. Sir,— I am directed by the Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury to transmit herewith, for the information of Mr. Secretary Cardwell, with reference to the letter of this Board of the 15th instnnt, copy of a letter from the Post-master General, dated the 2'2nd instant, further relative to the new packet service witfi the Australian Colonies, and I am to request that you will move Mr. Cardwell to cause the communications suggested by the Post-master General to be made to the Governments of the respective Australian Colonies and of New Zealand. I am at the same time to state that my Lords entirely concur in the views expressed by Lord Stanley of Alderley. I have, &c, F. Peel. Sir F. Rogers, Bart., &c, &c. MR. PEEL TO SIR F. ROGERS.
