Table M5.-CANDIDATES SUCCESSFUL in completing Degrees, etc., at the Examinations in 1942

In addition to these successes, 3,882 candidates entered for and 2,574 passed sections of the examinations lor degrees or tor admission to professions; 98 gained certificates of proficiency; 1,202 candidates entered for accountancy and 521 obtained passes in sections or completed the examination. There were 221 candidates (including bursary candidates) for the Entrance Scholarship Examination, 36 gaining scholarships, 92* others passing the examination with credit, and 33 qualifying for University Entrance. The number of entrants for the Universit} 7 Entrance Examination was 4,947 of whom 2,479 passed the examination. 290 candidates entered the University Entrance Examination to gain a further qualification, and of these 232 passed. Total number of entrants for all examinations 5,084, of whom 546 were absent (accountancy, 1,202 entered, 207 absent). ♦ Seven of these were awarded Taranaki Scholarships.
