No. 58. —Petition of W. V. Ciiiok, of Wellington, Labourer. Praying that effect be given to the recommendation of the Labour Bills Committee on his petition of 1939, asking for further compensation for injuries sustained by him. I have the honour to report that the Labour Bills Committee has again carefully considered the subject-matter of this petition, and recommends that the petition be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. The Committee is of opinion that the petitioner should be granted a sum of £70 Bs. 6d. as an ex gratia payment. 24th September, 1941.

No. 47. —Petition of J. McDonald and Others (Woburn Branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants), of Lower Hutt City. Praying for adjustments in their wages to bring them up to award rates. And No. 51.- —Petition of R. Macdonald and Others (Otahuhu Branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants), of Otahuhu. Praying that before any stabilization-of-wages-and-prices legislation is enacted, the schedule of wages be revised to secure for Second Division railwaymen uniform rates in conformity with those ruling in relative outside industries. I have the honour to report that the Labour Bills Committee has carefully considered these petitions and the evidence placed before it. The Committee was advised that representations on lines similar to those made by the petitioners to the Committee have already been made by the Executive of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants and are at present under consideration by the Government. In these circumstances, the Committee has 110 recommendation to make. 15th October, 1941.
