PUBLIC ACCOUNTS COMMITTEE (REPORTS OF THE). (Mr. J. ROBERTSON, Chairman.)

ORDER OF REFERENCE.

Friday, the 28th Day of July, 1939. Ordered, " That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting of ten members, to examine into and report upon such questions relating to the public accounts as may be referred to it by the House or the Government, and also into all matters relating to the finances of the Dominion which the Government may refer to it: the Committee to consist of the Right Hon. Mr. Coates, Mr. Dickie, Mr. Lee, Mr. McCombs, Dr. McMillan, Mr. Poison, Mr. Robertson, Mr. Thorn, Mr. Wilkinson, and the Mover."—(Hon. Mr. Fkaseb, for Hon. Mr. Nash.)

REPORTS.

Special Report. I have the honour to report that the Public Accounts Committee at its final meeting passed the following resolution : " That the Committee place on record its appreciation of the manner in which the Chairman, Mr. J. Robertson, has conducted its business during the Committee's examination of the Estimates." 6th October, 1939. H. G. Dickie, Member of the Committee.

Special Report. I have the honour to report that the Public Accounts Committee wishes to record its satisfaction with the duties performed by the Clerk, Mr. L. C. Dawe, and directs that this resolution be reported to the House. 6th October, 1939.

Final Report. I have the honour to report that the Public Accounts Committee, consisting of ten members, has during the session held ten meetings, with an average attendance at each meeting of six members. The estimates of expenditure and the Public Works estimates for the financial year 1939-40 were referred to the Committee by the Government for examination. Eighty-six officers of State in all were summoned before and examined on their respective votes. Resolutions on the various classes of estimates were agreed to and forwarded to the Minister of Finance for consideration. 6th October, 1939. J. Robertson, Chairman.
