ORDERS OF REFERENCE. Extracts from the Journals of the House of Representatives. Thursday, the 14th Day op July, 1938. Ordered, " That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting of ten members, to whom shall stand referred, after the first reading, all Bills affecting or in any way relating to the lands of the Crown, or education or other public reserves ; the Committee to have power to recommend such amendments therein as it thinks proper, and to report generally, when necessary, upon the principles and provisions of the Bills : the Committee to consist of Mr. Barnes, Mr. Christie, Mr. Cullen, Mr. Dickie, Colonel Hargest, Mr. McDougall, Mr. Meachen, the Hon. Sir Alfred Ransom, Mr. Wilson, and the Mover."—(Hon. Mr. Lee Martin, for Hon. Mr. Langstone.) Friday, the 15th Day of July, 1938. Ordered, " That all petitions not finally dealt with during the session of 1937-38 be again referred to the same Committees as they were referred to during the said session."—(Right Hon. Mr. Savage.) The Bill intituled the Opunake Harbour Act stands referred to the Lands Committee for report. (11th August, 1938.) The Bill intituled the Lower Clutha River Improvement Act stands referred to the Lands Committee for report. (24th August, 1938.) The Bill intituled the Southland Land Drainage Amendment Act stands referred to the Lands Committee for report. (Bth September. 1938.) The Bill intituled the Reserves and other Lands Disposal Act, having been read a first time in the House of Representatives on the 12th September. 1938. stands referred to the Lands Committee for report. REPORTS. Paritutd Centennial Park Bill. I have the honour to report that the Lands Committee has carefully considered the Paritutu Centennial Park Bill, and recommends that, so far as it affects public reserves, the Bill be allowed to proceed without amendment. 3rd August, 1938.
No. 136/1937-38.—Petition of J. F. Parker. Praying for relief in respect of loss occasioned by a mortgagee's sale of his property. I have the honour to report that the member presenting this petition having, in view of the decease of the petitioner, asked leave to withdraw the petition, the Lands Committee recommends that the member have leave to withdraw the same. 24th August, 1938.
No. 38.—Petition of H. Dykr. Praying for compensation for loss arising out of the operation of the Mortgagors and Lessees Kehabilitation Act, 1936. I have the honour to report that the Lands Committee has considered this petition, but as the petitioner has not exhausted his legal remedies the Committee has no recommendation to make. 24th August, 1938.
Opunake Harbour Bill. I have the honour to report that the Lands Committee has carefully considered the Opunake Harbour Bill, and recommends that, so far as it affects public reserves, the Bill be allowed to proceed without amendment. 24th August, 1938.
Wellington City Empowering and Amendment Bill. I have the honour to report that the Lands Committee has carefully considered the Wellington City Empowering and Amendment Bill, and recommends that, so far as it affects the rights and prerogatives of the Crown, the Bill be allowed to proceed without amendment. 24th August,, 1938.
Nos. 04 and 65. —Petitions of H. C. Wheeler. No. 64. : Praying that he be granted £1,200 for loss allegedly incurred through the hasty forfeiture of his property, or other relief; and No. 65 : Praying that he be granted £1,610 compensation for loss allegedly sustained through erroneous valuation of his property. I have the honour to report that the Lands Committee has carefully considered these petitions, and has no recommendation to make. J 2th September, 1938,

Lower Clutha River Improvement Bill. I have the honour to report that the Lands Committee has carefully considered the Lower Clutha River Improvement Bill, and recommends that, so far as it affects the rights and prerogatives of the Crown, the Bill be allowed to proceed with the amendments shown on the copy of the Bill hereto annexed. 12th September, 1938.
Southland Land Drainage Amendment Bill. I have the honour to report that the Lands Committee has carefully considered the Southland Land Drainage Amendment Bill, and, concurring in the deletion of clause 8 from the Bill by the Local Bills Committee, the Committee recommends that, so far as it now affects the rights and prerogatives of the Crown, the Bill be allowed to proceed without amendment. 12th September, 1938. Reserves and other Lands Disposal Bill. I have the honour to report that the Lands Committee, to which was referred the Reserves and other Lands Disposal Bill and the subsequent amendments thereto proposed by His Excellency the GovernorGeneral, has carefully considered the provisions of the Bill and the amendments, and recommends that the Bill with the aforesaid amendments be allowed to proceed without further amendment. 14th September, 1938.
Local Legislation Bill. I have the honour to report that the Lands Committee has carefully considered the Local Legislation Bill, and recommends that, so far as it affects public reserves, the Bill bo allowed to proceed without amendment. 14th September, 1938.
Final Report. I have the honour to report that the Lands Committee, consisting of ten members, has held six meetings during the session, with an average attendance of six members. Seven Bills and five petitions were referred to the Committee, and all were considered and reported to the House, except one petition presented late in the session. E. P.
