Ordered, " That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting of ten members, to whom shall stand referred, after the first reading, all Bills affecting or in any way relating to tlie lands of the Crown or education or other public reserves; the Committee to have power to recommend such amendments therein as it thinks proper, and to report generally, when necessary, upon the principles and provisions of the Bills: the Committee to consist of Mr. Connolly, Mr. Dickie, Colonel Hargest, Mr. Langstone, Mr.Macpherson, Mr. J. Masterton Trust Lands Amendment Bill. I have the honour to report that the Lands Committee has carefully considered the Masterton Trust Lands Amendment Bill, and recommends that, so far as it affects public reserves, the Bill be allowed to proceed without amendment. 2nd October, 1935.

Wellington City Empowering and Amendment Bill. I have the honour to report that the Lands Committee has carefully considered the Wellington City Empowering and Amendment Bill, and recommends that, so far as it affects public reserves, the Bill be allowed to proceed without amendment. 2nd October, 1935.

Napier Foreshore Extension Bill. I have the honour to report that the Lands Committee has carefully considered the Napier Foreshore Extension Bill, and recommends that the Bill be allowed to proceed without amendment. 2nd October, 1935.

No. 88. —Petition of J. Campbell and 131 Others, of Waikaia District. Praying that a license to erect and operate a sawmill on Run No. 328, Waikaia Survey District, be granted to Messrs. Campbell Brothers, of Dunedin. I have the honour to report that the Lands Committee has carefully considered this petition and has no recommendation to make. 2nd October, 1935.

Praying for compensation for losses allegedly due to erroneous valuation of his property by the Valuation Department. , . Featherston County Water-race Districts Validation Bill. I have the honour to report that the Lands Committee has carefully considered the Featherston County Water-race Districts Validation Bill, and recommends that, so far as it affects the rights and prerogatives of the Crown, the Bill be allowed to proceed without amendment. Praying for compensation or a compassionate allowance in respect of loss sustained by her late husband's estate through farming Crown land in Murchison County. I have the honour to report that the Lands Committee has carefully considered this petition, and recommends that the petition be referred to the Government for consideration. 23rd October, 1935.

No. 60.—Petition of T. Y. Forman, of Kimbolton. Praying for a refund of moneys expended by petitioner in connection with a claim by the Commissioner of Crown Lands to possession of land at Kimbolton. I have the honour to report that the Lands Committee has carefully considered this petition, and recommends that it be referred to the Government for inquiry and consideration. 23rd October, 1935.

No. 362.—Petition of W. R. Ayson and 16 Others, of Otautau, Settlers, and No. 363.— J. McLeay and 9 Others, of Edendale and Seaward Downs Districts. Praying (1) That a reduction be made in the interest charged on their Capital and Current Accounts; (2) that their instalment mortgages be written down; (3) that their lands be revalued; (4) that the system of orders and percentages on milk cheques be done away with. I have the honour to report that the Lands Committee has carefully considered these petitions, and recommends that the petitions be referred to the Government for consideration. 23rd October, 1935.

No. 171. —Petition of T. Harris, of Putaruru. Praying for compensation for loss sustained through alleged forced sale of his property. 1 have the honour to report that the Lands Committee has carefully considered this petition, and recommends that it be referred to the Government for consideration. 23rd October, 1935.

No. 191.—Petition of S. P. G. Williams, of Runciman. Praying for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the loss of his land. I have the honour to report that the Lands Committee has carefully considered this petition, and has no recommendation to make. 23rd October, 1935.

No. 351, 1934-35.—Petition of T. Jackson and 8 Others, of Rotorua. Praying that the right of reasonable access for the public to all lakes and waterways in the Rotorua-Taupo Thermal and Lakes District be secured. I have the honour to report that, the honourable member presenting this petition being desirous of withdrawing it, the Committee recommends that the petition be allowed to be withdrawn. 23rd October, 1935.

Southland Land Drainage Bill. I have the honour to report that the Lands Committee has carefully considered the Southland Land Drainage Bill, and recommends that, so far as it affects the rights and prerogatives of the Crown, the Bill he allowed to proceed, with the amendment shown on the copy of ,the Bill hereto annexed. 23rd October, 1935.

Reserves and Other Lands Disposal Bill. I have the honour to report that the Lands Committee has carefully considered the Reserves and other Lands Disposal Bill, and recommends that the Bill be allowed to proceed, with the amendment shown on the copy of the Bill hereto annexed. 24th October, 1935.

No. 193,—Petition of R. J. A. Dalley, of Woodend, North Canterbury. Praying for an inquiry into the administration of his affairs by the Lands Department. I have the honour to report that the Lands Committee has carefully considered this petition, and has no recommendation to make. 25th October, 1935.

No. 28. —Petition of W. E. Timmings, of Wellington. Praying for restoration of property of which he was allegedly wrongfully dispossessed, or for compensation. I have the honour to report that the Lands Committee has carefully considered this petition, and has no recommendation to make. J. A. Macpherson, Chairman. 25th October, 1935.

Special Report. I have the honour to report that at its final meeting the Lands Committee unanimously passed the following resolution: " That this Committee places on record its appreciation of the care and ability with which the Chairman, Mr. Macpherson, has conducted the business of the Committee during the session, and directs that this resolution be reported to the House." H. G. Dickie, a Member of the Committee. 25th October, 1935.

Special Report. I have the honour to report that at its final meeting the Lands Committee expressed by resolution its appreciation of the services rendered to the Committee by the Clerk, Mr. W. J. Organ, and directed that the resolution be reported to the House. 25th October, 1935.

Pinal Report. I have the honour to report that the Lands Committee, consisting at the commencement of the session of ten members, has held eight meetings, with an average attendance of seven members. The Committee has to record the loss it sustained by the death of one of its number, the late Mr. Connolly. Fourteen Bills and fifteen Petitions were referred to the Committee, and all have been considered and reported on to the House. J. A. Macpherson, Chairman. 25th October, 1935.
