ORDERS OF REFERENCE. Extracts from, the Journals of the House of Representatives. Wednesday, the 4th Day op July, 1923. Ordered, " That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting of ten members, to consider all matters relating to public health, infectious diseases, contagious diseases, hospitals, and to local authorities having charge of these matters, and to such other matters affecting public health as may be referred to it; to have power to call for persons and papers ; three to be a quorum : the Committee to consist of Mr. Armstrong, Mr. Bell, Hon. Mr. Buddo, Mr. Field, Mr. Hockly, Sir G. Hunter, Mr. Macpherson, Mr. Parry, Hon. Sir M. Pomare, and the mover." —(Hon. Mr. Parr.) Friday, the 20th Day op July, 1923. Ordered, " That the Sale of Food and Drugs Amendment Bill be referred to the Public Health Committee."— (Hon. Sir M. Pomare.) Thursday, the IGth Day op August, 1923. Ordered, " That the Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Amendment Bill be referred to the Public Health Committee."—(Hon. Sir M. Pomare.)

KEPOETB. Sale or Food and Drugs Amendment Bill. The Public Health Committee, to which was referred the above-mentioned Bill, has the honour to report that the said Bill has been carefully considered, and the Committee recommends that it be allowed to proceed without amendment. 31st July, 1923.

No. 0. —Petition of Francis Leo Mangan, of Ponsonby, Auckland. Praying for an amendment to the Dentists Amendment Act, 1921-22, in order that he may become entitled to sit for examination prescribed. I am directed to report that the Committee is strongly of opinion that relief be granted to the petitioner by legislation this session, and that this report be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 17th August, 1923.

Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Amendment Bill. The Public Health Committee, to which was referred the above-mentioned Bill, has the honour to report that it has carefully considered the same, and recommends that it be allowed to proceed with the amendments as shown on the copy attached hereto. 21st August, 1923.

No. 150.—Petition of T. J. Eogers and 139 Others, of Te Kuiti. Praying that a certain portion of the Otorohanga County be not included in the rating-area for a cottage hospital at Te Kuiti. I am directed to report that the Committee, having carefully considered the petition, has no recommendation to make. 28th August, 1923. 4 Special Report. I have the honour to report that this Committee records its high sense and deep appreciation of the capable and impartial manner in which the Chairman, Mr. W. 11. Field, M.P., has presided over the deliberations of the Public Health Committee, and desires that this resolution be reported to the House. 28th August, 1923. J. A. Maopherson, Member of the Committee. Final Report. I have the honour to report that the Committee held five meetings and dealt with two Bills (Sale of Food and Drugs Amendment Bill, and Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Amendment Bill), and two petitions were referred to the Committee, and all were considered and reported upon. 28th August, 1923.
