ORDERS OF REFERENCE. Extracts from the Journals of the House of Representatives. Wednesday, the 4th Day of July, 1923. Ordered, " That a Committee be appointed, consisting of ten members, to examine into and report upon such questions relating to tho public accounts as it may think desirable or that may bo referred to it by the House or the Government, and also into all matters relating to tho finances of the Dominion which tho Government may refer to it; to have power to call for persons and papers ; three to be a quorum : the Committee to consist of Hon. Mr. Hanan, Mr. Isitt, Mr. Lysnar, Mr. McCombs, Mr. Macmillan, Mr. Nash, Mr. Poland, Mr. F. J. Rolleston, Hon. Mr. Downie Stewart, and the mover."—(Right Hon. Mr. Massey.) Thursday, the 20th Day oe July, 1923. Ordered, " That the Land and Income Tax Bill be referred to the Public Accounts Committee."—(Right Hon. Mr. Massey.)

REPORTS. No. 34. —Petition of W. E. Rawson (the East Coast Commissioner). Petitioner prays that the principle adopted by Parliament of fixing the limit for taxation on Native lands at 25 per cent, of the revenue may be applied to the East Coast Trust lands in respect of past assessments, and that a remission of taxation accordingly be authorized by Parliament, and the sums overpaid owing to tho unexpected effect of the Finance Act, 1917, be refunded. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make with regard to this petition.

Land and Income Tax Bill. I have the honour to report that the Public Accounts Committee, to which was referred the Land and Income Tax Bill, has duly gone through the same, and is of opinion that it should be allowed to proceed, subject to the amendments as shown on a copy of the Bill attached. 3rd August, 1923.
