ORDER OF REFERENCE. Extract from the Journal? of the House of Representatives. Wednesday, the 3rd Day of Sbptbmßbb, 1919. Ordered, " That Standing Order No. 219 be suspended, and that a Native Affairs Committee be appointed, consisting of sixteen members, to consider all petitions, reports, returns, and other documents relating to affairs especially affecting the Native race that may be brought before the House this session, and from time to time to report thereon to the House ; with power to call for persons and papers ; three to be a quorum: the Committee to consist of the Hon. Sir J. Carroll, Mr. W. H. Field, Mr. Henare, Mr. Hudson, Mr. Jennings, the Hon. Mr. Mac Donald, Mr. Mander, the Hon. Mr. Ngata, the Hon. Final Report. I HAVE tlu! honour to report that the Native Affairs Committee held its final meeting on Monday, the 3rd day of November. During the session the Committee met on 31 occasions, with an average attendance of 9. Including 86 petitions brought forward from last session, the Committee had before it 172 petitions. Of these petitions 77 were considered and reported upon, and the remaining 95 are held over until next session. With regard to 31 petitions the Committee recommended that they be referred to the Government as follows : 18 for inquiry, 5 for favourable consideration, and 8 for consideration. With regard to 1 petition the Committee recommended that it be referred to the Hon. Minister of Lands. Upon 41 petitions the Committee had no recommendation to make, and 4 petitions were withdrawn. The Native Townships Amendment Bill, the Native Land Amendment and Native Land Claims Adjustment Bill, and the Reserves and other Lands Disposal and Public Bodies Empowering Bill were referred to the Committee, and were duly considered and reported upon.
