Return to an Order of the House of Representatives dated the 21st July, 1915. Ordered, "That there be laid before this House a return showing—(l) The number of employees in the Public Service who have volunteered and been aooepted for active service; (2) the total number of male employees in the Public Service ; and (3) the total number of male employees in the Public Service between twonty and forty years of age, setting forth those that are married and those that are unmarried."—(Mr. Myers.)

(a.) It was announced from the first that the polioe would not be allowed to volunteer for active service, and therefore very few m>ide written application for permission to serve. A number of members of the Force resigned and subsequently joined the Expeditionary Force and are now at the front. The above return has been compiled from information supplied by the various Departments. J. Hislop, Under-Secretary. Department of Internal Affairs, 4th October, 1915.
