Ordered, " That a Goldfields and Mines Committee be appointed, consisting of ten members, to whom shall bo referred all matters relating to mining, and all Bills relating to mines ; with power to call for persons and papers ; three to be a quorum : the Committee to consist of Mr. R. F. Bollard, Mr. Colvin, Mr. Lee, Hon. Mr. McKenzie, Mr. Poland, Mr. T. W. Rhodes, Mr. Scott, Mr. Seddon, Mr. G. M. Thomson, and the mover."—(Hon. Mr. Fraser.) No. 102.—Petition of Haora Tareranui and 60 others, of Paeroa, County of Ohinemuri. Praying for relief re damage to their land, which is caused by the silting-up of the Ohinemuri River in consequence of operations by gold-extraction companies. I am directed to report that in the opinion of this Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. litth September, 1913.

No. 364 (1912). —Petition of Peter McLachlan Campbell, of Waimate, Canterbury. Praying for compensation for loss sustained through being unable to obtain plans of workings of a certain coal-mine from the Inspector of Mines. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make on this petition. 26th September, 1913.

No. 364. — Petition of Thomas Neale, of Nelson, Liquidator of the Puponga Coal Company (in Liquidation). Praying for the remission of coal royalties. I am directed to report that the Committee recommends that this petition be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 16th October, 1913.

No. 307. —Petition of Richard Augustus Hall and William Henry Black, of Kawakawa. Auckland. Praying for permission to surrender coal lease, and for withdrawal of Court proceedings. I am directed to report that the Committee recommends that this petition be referred to the Government Eor favourable consideration. 16th October, 1913.

No. 390. —-Petition of James Hosie, of Kuaotunu. Praying for a reward for the discovery of "old at Karanguhake, Ohinemuri, Owhaioa, and Waihi. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make on this petition. 30th October, 1913.

No. 362. —Petition of the Mount Radiant Prospecting Company (No Liability) (P. L. Sim, Secretary) and Another. Praying that provision be made on this year's Mines estimates to extend the track from Belltown to Silver Creek (Mount Radiant). I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for consideration with a view to assisting the pi t it loners to bring out a bulk parcel of ore for treatment. Mining Amendment Bill. The Goldfields and Mines Committee, to which was referred the Mining Amendment Bill, has the honour to report that it has carefully considered the same, and recommends that it be allowed to proceed with the amendments as shown on the copy of the Bill annexed hereto. 3rd December, 1913.

Special Report. That this meeting place upon record its appreciation of the able manner in which the Chairman (Mr. R. Scott) has conducted the business of the Committee and of the impartiality he has shown. 12th December, 1913.
