MOKAU-MOHAKATINO BLOCK (PAYMENTS MADE IN RESPECT OF THE).
Return to an Order of the House of Representatives dated the 4th September, 1912. Ordered, " That there be laid before this House a return showing (1) all payments made by the late two Governments on account of the purohase of the Mokau-Mohakatino Block, and (2) all payments made to any solicitors in connection with the same blook for the two years ended 31st March, 1912."—(Mr. Okby). 1. Native Department, Wellington, 19th September, 1912. Memo. —As other Departments may have had some dealings in connection with MokauMohakatino Block I referred the order for their perusal. I append hereunder copies of replies received. Department of Lands and Survey, Wellington, sth October, 1912. Mokau-Mohakatino Block. Eeferring to your memorandum of the 29th ultimo, in connection with return asked for by order of the House of Eepresentatives, I have to inform you that the only payment made by this Department was the advance to Anaru Eketone (see exhibit 98 in Mokau-Mohakatino Eeport). No fees have been paid to any solicitor in connection with this block during the period mentioned. John Stbauchon, Under-Secretary. The Under-Secretary, Department of Native Affairs. I beg to acknowledge the receipt of your memorandum of the 3rd instant, and, in reply, to inform you that no payment has been made by this Department to any solicitors or others in connection with the Mokau-Mohakatino Block during the two years ended the 31st March last.
