INDIAN FAMINE RELIEF FUND: DESPATCH FROM HIS EXCELLENCY THE VICEROY OF INDIA THANKING CONTRIBUTORS.
Laid upon the Table of the House of Representatives by Command.
My Loed, — Viceregal Lodge, Simla, 10th September, 1901. The labours of the Central Executive Committee of the Indian Famine Charitable Relief Fund have now practically concluded, and the fund has been closed. I desire to express on their behalf, as also upon my own, our deep sense of gratitude for the invaluable assistance which you, and the immediate subscribers to your fund, have rendered by your most charitable efforts on behalf of the famine-stricken people of India, who have borne their troubles with the utmost fortitude and patience. I am satisfied that they will ever gratefully remember the benevolent generosity which has been so unsparingly displayed towards them. Your subscribers may rest assured that their charity has mitigated a vast amount of suffering and alleviated much dire and bitter distress. I have much pleasure in sending you a copy of the Central Committee's report, and in again tendering you our most hearty thanks. I have, &c, His Excellency the Right Hon. the Governor of New Zealand.
