FEDERATION OF FIJI WITH NEW ZEALAND. (RESOLUTIONS BY FIJI FEDERAL LEAGUE.)
Presented to both Houses of the General Assembly by Leave.
The Honorary Secretary, Fiji Federal League, to the Right Hon. the Premier. Sir,— Suva, Fiji, 7th September, 1900. I am instructed by the chairman of the Fiji Federal League to forward to you herewith a copy of the resolutions passed at a meeting held in Suva on Monday, the 3rd instant. I have, &c, The Rt. Hon. Richard Seddon, 'Alport Barker, Honorary Secretary. Premier of New Zealand, Wellington. Resolutions passed at a meeting held at the offices of Messrs. J. C. Smith and Co., Suva, Fiji, on Monday, 3rd September, 1900, at which the following were present : Messrs. F. E. Riemenschneider (in the chair), Humphry Berkeley, G. L. Griffiths, H. G. Hunt, John Rennie, W. T. Sturt, F. A. Thomas, and Dr. Fox. Proposed by Dr. Fox, seconded by Mr. Sturt, That it is desirable that a Federal League be formed, and that the gentlemen present be constituted a committee to further the movement of Federation with New Zealand, with power to add to their number. —Carried unanimously. Proposed by Mr. Humphry Berkeley, seconded by Mr. Rennie, That a copy of the first resolution be forwarded to the committee at Levuka, and that that committee be incorporated with ours in the movement. —Carried unanimously. Proposed by Mr. Sturt, seconded by Mr. Hunt, That a sub-committee, consisting of F. E. Riemenschneider, Humphry Berkeley, and G. Fox, be appointed to draw up a petition to be presented to the general committee for discussion, and that a copy be sent to the Levuka committee.—Carried unanimously. Proposed by Mr. Humphry Berkeley, seconded by Dr. Fox, That the Chairman, on behalf of the gentlemen who are assembled here, shall intimate to the Premier of New Zealand their personal willingness to co-operate with him in the scheme he has formulated for the federation of New Zealand and Fiji.—Carried unanimously.
