Return to an Order of the House of Representatives dated the 18th August, 1899. Ordered, "That there be laid before this House a return showing—(l) All amounts paid by the Government during each of the two last finanoial years through this colony's connection with the Cook Islands Group; (2) the amount both of export and import trade with these islands during eaoh of these two years, distinguishing as far as possible the interchange of products for consumption from reshipped merchandise, and products merely sent to NewZealand for transhipment."—(Mr. Duthie.)

Raw coffee—lB97-98, £3,097; 1898-99, £1,107. Copra—lB97-98, £7,044; 1898-99, £5,642. Fruit—lB97-98, £11,317 ; 1898-99, £8,575. Shells, 1897-98, £1,446; 1898-99, £557. Vanillabeans, 1897-98, £1,331. It is not possible to state what proportion is retained for consumption in New Zealand. Exports to GooJc Islands. Produce of New Zealand shipped: 1897-98, £10,362 ; 1898-99, £6,908. Produce of countries other than New Zealand reshipped : 1897-98, £9,941; 1898-99, £6,477. Transhipments to Cook Islands : 1897-98, 1,792 packages sundries; 1898-99, 667 packages sundries. Transhipments from Cook Islands :—1897-98—1,423 sacks coffee, 153 packages pearl-shell, 360 cs. oranges, 21 cs. vanilla, 9 bales cotton, 20 packages sundries. 1898-99—221 sacks coffee, 24 packages pearl-shell, 10 bales cotton, 53 casks limejuice, 1,784 sacks copra.
