Police Offences Act 1884 Amendment Bill. The Joint Agricultural, Pastoral, and Stock Committee, to whom was referred the Police Offences Act 1884 Amendment Bill, have the honour to report that, in the opinion of the Committee, it is too late in the session to obtain evidence on the subject of dehorning cattle, and that therefore the Committee is not prepared to express an opinion on the subject of the Bill. Abattoirs and Slaughteshousbs Act Amendment Bill. I have the honour to report that the Joint Agricultural, Pastoral, and Stock Committee, to whom was referred the above Bill, have duly considered the same, and recommend that it be allowed to proceed. 22nd September, 1896. J. D. Oemond, Chairman.
Noxious Weeds Bill. I have the honour to report that the Joint Agricultural, Pastoral, and Stock Committee, to whom was referred the above Bill, are of the opinion that, as the time at their disposal does not allow them to enter fully into the subject of the Bill, and to make satisfactory amendments therein, they recommend that the Bill be deferred, and brought up at an early date next session. 23rd September, 1896. Obchaed and Gaeden Pests Bill. I have the honour to report that the Joint Agricultural, Pastoral, and Stock Committee, to whom was referred the above Bill, have duly considered the same, and recommend that it be allowed to proceed, subject to the amendments as shown in the copy of the Bill attached. 23rd September, 1896. No. 382.—Petition of S. A. Beowne and Others. Pbtitionees pray that the Orchard and Garden Pests Bill will be thrown out. 1 have the honour to report that, in the opinion of the Joint Agricultural, Pastoral, and Stock Committee, this petition should be referred to the Government. 23rd September, 1896. No. 218. —Petition of Jambs Findlay and Others. Petitioners pray that cow-pox may be removed from the scheduled list in the Stock Act; and that when cattle are destroyed on account of being infected with tuberculosis compensation be paid to the owner. I have the honour to report that the Joint Agricultural, Pastoral, and Stock Committee are of opinion that this petition should be referred to the Government. Bth October, 1896. No. 4, L.C.—Petition of C. G-. Tripp and Others. Petitioners pray for the erection of a rabbit-proof fence to protect South Canterbury from the incursion of rabbits, and suggest a line from Waitaki past Fairlie to Eangitata, estimating the cost at £20,000. I have the honour to report that, as a similar petition has already been referred to the Government by the Waste Lands Committee, House of Bepresentatives, the Joint Agricultural, Pastoral, and Stock Committee have no further recommendation to make. No. 354.—Petition of G. Ceosbie and Others. Petitionebs complain that the railway rates for the carriage of frozen and dead meat from and to the works of the Southland Frozen Meat and Produce Export Company (Limited), at Mataura, are excessive, and pray that the said rates be reduced to a scale similar to what is charged elsewhere. I have the honour to report that the Joint Agricultural, Pastoral, and Stock Committee, having already dealt with the question in a report on the petition of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association, have no further recommendation to make.
