REPORTING DEBATES AND PRINTING COMMITTEE. (FURTHER REPORTS.)
Brought up Session 1896, and ordered to be printed.
Eeport on Hansard Staef. The Eeporting Debates and Printing Committee have the honour to report— (1.) That, in accordance with the recommendation of the Chief Hansard Eeporter, the system of employing amanuenses should be abolished, and that three additional Hansard reporters should be appointed on probation. (2.) That the Committee, having taken the opinion of the Chief Hansard Eeporter, consider that it is not advisable to place the reporters on the floor of the House. Ist July, 1896. Wm. J. Steward, Chairman.
Eeport on Eevision op Hansard. The Eeporting Debates and Printing Committee have the honour to report the following resolution, passed by them on Wednesday, the 15th day of July, 1896 : " That the instruction to supply printed proofs of interruptions be not further insisted upon ; and that the Hansard Supervisor give notice to members of interjections reported, such members to be allowed to see the reports of such interjections on application to the Hansard Supervisor within twenty-four hours of making the same; and that the correcting of such interjections be subject to the approval of Mr. Speaker, if required by the Supervisor." 15th July, 1896. Eeport on an Omission prom Hansard. The Eeporting Debates and Printing Committee have the honour to report that, having made inquiry into the circumstances set forth in a letter received from Mr. G. J. Smith, honourable member for Christchurch City, they find that the medical certificate therein referred to was omitted from Hansard, and the Committee are informed that the said certificate was lost or mislaid. So far as the Committee can ascertain, no blame in this case is to be attributed to the members of the Hansard staff. Ist September, 1896. Wm. J. Steward, Chairman.
