CIVIL SERVICE APPOINTMENTS. RETURN OF THE NUMBER OF PERMANENT CLERKS, TEMPORARY CLERKS, CADETS, AND MESSENGERS EMPLOYED IN EACH GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENT IN WELLINGTON DURING 1895-96.

Return to an Order of the House of Representatives dated 23rd June, 1896. Ordered, " That there be laid before this House a return showing the number of (a) cadets, (6) clerks on the permanent staff, (c) temporary clerks, and (d) messengers employed in each Government department in Wellington during the financial year 1895-96." —(Hon. Sir R. Stout. )

(i) Four employed preparing catalogue, Parliamentary Library ; one preliminary work, census ; one place of another, resigned. (j) Average number employed.
