PUBLIC ACCOUNTS COMMITTEE. (REPORT ON THE PETITION OF THE COLONIAL BANK OF NEW ZEALAND.)
Report brought up 17th August, 1892, and ordered to be printed.
The Public Accounts Committee, having carefully considered the petition of the Colonial Bank of New Zealand, and having taken evidence at length thereon, have the honour to report as follows: — 1. That the Colonial Bank of New Zealand rendered an important service to the colony in February, 1888. 2. With regard to the statement of the Colonial Bank of New Zealand, that in consideration of such service a promise was made that it would receive a share of the Government Account at an early date, and also that it would get a share of the Government remittances, the evidence produced before the Committee leaves the matter in doubt; but the fact that for some time after the date referred to the Colonial Bank was conceded a share of the Government remittances strongly supports its claim to that extent. 3. Your Committee are of opinion that, in recognition of the service referred to, arrangementsshould be made to give to the Colonial Bank of New Zealand a share of the remittances. 4. A copy of the evidence taken by your Committee is attached hereto. * 17th August, 1892. A. E. Guinness, Chairman. * This evidence was not ordered to be printed. Approximate Cost of Paper.— Preparation, nil; printing (1,100 copies), 17s. 6d.
